What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-08-20 11:33 UTC.

Bitcoin’s surge above $71k — fuelled by Trump’s White House crypto meeting, the SEC’s friendlier proposals, and falling yields — again sets the tone, while oil stays bid on the “economic war” against Iran and JPMorgan warns the Treasury’s buyback blitz could push yields higher. Same forces rolling on, no reversal yet.

Today’s London calendar is light: Germany’s Bundesbank monthly report and the UK’s CBI industrial order expectations are both low-impact, so neither euro nor pound gets a firm lean from the data. Even the data calendar seems to be taking a coffee break.

Watch whether crypto’s momentum carries through quiet hours, whether oil extends its geopolitical gains, and — crucially — whether yields respond to the JPMorgan note. The technical gauge tells the same story as this morning’s headlines: EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY are neutral, gold is neutral too, caught between a weak trend and haven demand; oil, bitcoin and ethereum stay bullish on momentum and supportive news flow. No reversal — just the same forces rolling on.
