What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-08-23 21:00 UTC.

The US session closed with the same story it opened with: crypto regulation still front and center, now at a “binary stage” — the White House says a CLARITY Act deal is near. Gold’s Treasury-fueled rally held, and Gulf markets rose on Iran sanction fears, leaving oil parked just under $86.90.

The Asia calendar is nearly bare: New Zealand retail sales (q/q and core q/q) are the only scheduled items, both low-impact. If the kiwi gets the day’s first data moment, you know the tape is doing the heavy lifting.

That said, the barometer still reads bullish — gold, oil and cable bullish-clear; bitcoin and ether leaning bullish — but the engine is cooler than yesterday. BTC’s H4 RSI has eased to 71, ether’s to 69.5, and gold is running an RSI-divergence warning beneath $4,604.58. So the story continues, not reverses: either the regulatory bid reignites, or stretched charts take a breath. Cable remains one to watch, squeezed between 1.36222 and 1.36563 with a breakout on the table.
