What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-08-26 21:01 UTC.

The US close handed over a tape of sticky PCE inflation, a divided Fed, and oil sliding again — the oil story simply carried over, while stocks faded to mixed. Dollar and bond markets are “on edge” ahead of Jackson Hole, so Asia may be the calm before that storm.

The session calendar is light: AUD Household Spending and Private Capital Expenditure, the RBA Bulletin, then German GfK Consumer Climate — all low-tier, so don’t expect fireworks. With the US data deck done, the flow is likely to trade off technicals and headlines.

The barometer shows a familiar tilt: USD/JPY is the clearest bull, pressing up against 159.35455; GBP/USD leans bullish; EUR/USD is neutral; gold is neutral but soft, straddling support at 4588.96; oil stays bearish-leaning and squeezed between 80.99 and 81.94, so a breakout call is on the table. Bitcoin holds a bullish lean but momentum is soft; ether remains bearish-leaning. With low-tier data and thin liquidity, the coffee rule applies — keep it close and let levels do the talking.
