What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-08-31 21:00 UTC.

US session closed with stocks lower, the 10-year yield pressing through a key threshold, and oil prices above $91 a barrel after fresh US–Iran exchange — a cautious tape for Asia to wake up to.

Asia’s calendar is light: Japan’s capex, PMIs and consumer confidence, Australia’s building approvals and current account, plus European manufacturing PMIs — all low impact, and with London still on holiday, liquidity stays thin. Don’t expect fireworks; the charts are the whole show again.

Yesterday’s story holds: equities cautious, oil firm, EUR and GBP soft. The technical gauge tilts bullish for oil, USDJPY, BTC and ETH; neutral for EUR and GBP; bearish-leaning for gold. Oil is the centrepiece — WTI at 85.43 pressing resistance 85.53 after clearing 84.54, with RSI near 65 warning the rally is stretched. Gold holds 4442.36 but H4 is down. EUR rides 1.16141 with room to 1.16488; GBP is squeezed between 1.35401 and 1.35531; USDJPY sits on 159.76486. BTC is up 1.18% over 8h, holding 78,699.9; ETH is boxed between 2454.4 and 2480.0.
