SESSION PREP · US

What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-08-31 12:00 UTC.

Cautious risk tone continues — Asian shares and US futures slipped after a US strike on Iranian rocket launchers sent oil surging (Brent above $90), and bond yields hold at multi-year highs. Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole remarks keep rate-hike odds elevated, so last session's story mostly holds: cautious equities, firm oil, soft EUR and GBP.

The calendar window is quiet — only G20 meetings, marked low impact — and with London still on holiday, liquidity stays thin. No data to steer, so the charts are the whole show again.

The twist is oil: it has cleared its old 84.54 ceiling and sits at 85.61, pressing toward 87.03 — though RSI 71 says the rally is getting stretched. Gold's bounce to 4456.74 is holding above flipped support 4442.54; a hold gives the bears pause, a break reopens the slide. EUR and GBP still hug their supports (1.15793, 1.35406) — a break extends the downtrend, a hold gives the bears a moment. USDJPY is squeezed between 159.57 and 159.74, so a breakout is on the table. BTC presses 78,282.8; ETH sits boxed between 2440.3 and 2465.9.
