What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-09-01 21:01 UTC.

Oil stayed the headline act into the close: after the U.S. struck Iranian targets, crude extended its climb while Wall Street dipped — higher yields and firmer oil made for a shaky start to September. The story we flagged last session carried over: oil keeps running, gold's slip turned into a slide, and the euro still idles low in its range.

The calendar hands the spotlight to the antipodes this morning. Australian GDP q/q leads off, then the RBNZ steps to the podium — Official Cash Rate, Monetary Policy Statement, and press conference. The kiwi has been soft, so all ears will be on Wellington. Building consents, Japanese monetary base, Spanish unemployment, and the French budget balance fill in the gaps.

As the session unfolds, watch the gauges: oil is bullish but stretched — RSI in the low 80s, no tested ceiling, so chasing strength is the risk. Gold is bearish-clear with RSI 27 and support at 4315.10 just below. USDJPY has climbed alongside the yield story to resistance at 160.218 — break or stall is the question. And Ethereum sits squeezed between 2407.6 and 2433.5, with a breakout on the table and no clear direction.
