What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-09-01 08:00 UTC.

Oil is the story again this morning: prices are pushing higher after fresh US–Iran exchanges, while equities stay cautious and the 10-year Treasury yield has crossed a threshold that has traders sitting up. Yesterday’s script largely carries over — firm oil, soft euro and pound, cautious stocks — with WTI at 86.13 and EURUSD drifting to 1.15941. The twist: after a strong run, some charts are looking stretched.

London’s calendar is mostly second-tier — final manufacturing PMIs for the euro area and UK, UK M4, mortgage approvals and net lending. The one to watch is the euro area flash CPI estimate (headline and core, medium impact); a surprise could wake EURUSD from its low-in-the-range drift.

Technically, the gauge leans bullish on USDJPY, oil, BTC and ETH; bearish-leaning on GBP and gold; neutral on EUR. USDJPY has open ground above 159.77, while GBPUSD is squeezed between 1.35270 and 1.35391 — a breakout decides. Oil has no tested ceiling above, but RSI divergence is a caution. Gold sits just above 4419.56, and bitcoin is boxed between 78,419 and 78,835.
