What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-08 12:00 UTC.

US Session Prep — 12:00–21:00 UTC

Backdrop. The risk-off tone from Asia is holding firm into New York: equities are lower for a second day, and oil is pressing toward fresh three-month highs after Saudi Arabia reported strikes on civilian and energy sites — with Goldman now flipping to see $120 Brent as a possibility. Gold is nursing losses near 4,405 after China’s central bank bought gold at record prices, while Bitcoin has softened to the 78,400 area with the CLARITY Act Senate test still simmering.

On the calendar. A light window — the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Report Hearings and US Consumer Credit are the only items of note. Neither should move the needle, so headline flow and technicals lead the tape.

What to watch. Oil remains the cleanest signal: bullish across H1/H4/D1 with open ground overhead, though D1 RSI at 70.5 is flashing hot — a pause toward 90.47 support would be healthy, not bearish. USD/JPY is the standout bear, stretched with H4 RSI at 29.3 and no tested floor below; watch for a snap-back given the yen’s extended run. Gold, Bitcoin, and Ethereum sit in tight squeezes with breakouts on the table — let price decide the direction, and keep one eye on the headlines.
