The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-16 12:00 UTC.
US Session Prep — 12:00–21:00 UTC
The story hasn't changed, it's just crossed the Atlantic: the Senate's CLARITY Act failed its cloture vote, Bitcoin broke below $75,000 to a three-week low, and crypto-linked equities are still wearing the damage — all while 5% Treasury yields keep the pressure on risk assets. London added little of its own, so the US inherits the same cautious mood.
Today's docket is where the real weight sits. US Retail Sales and Core Retail Sales m/m land early, flanked by Import Prices and Business Inventories; Canada brings Housing Starts, Building Permits and the BOC's Summary of Deliberations. Then the main event: the Federal Funds Rate, FOMC Economic Projections, the FOMC Statement and the Press Conference. That trio of high-tier releases is the session's whole personality.
On the barometer, the read is mostly "squeezed." EUR/USD sits between 1.15324 support and 1.15461 resistance, GBP/USD between 1.34377 and 1.34669 — both neutral-to-bearish, both coiled for a breakout with direction unknown. GBP/USD still carries that RSI divergence warning. Gold has flipped bullish (H1 up, RSI 67.7) inside a tight 4340.60–4360.16 range. Oil remains the standout — bullish clear across D1/H4, though H1 has turned down and momentum softened. Bitcoin is bearish-leaning, pressed on 75848.2 support with room above; Ethereum leans bearish too, squeezed between 2404.8 and 2420.9. USD/JPY is the dissent — D1 down, H4 up, evenly balanced.
Let the levels do the talking.
