SESSION PREP · ASIA

What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-09-17 21:00 UTC.

Asia Session Prep — 21:00–08:00 UTC

Wall Street found its footing after the Fed's first hike in three years, with oil and Treasury yields slipping — though the CLARITY Act's 49–50 Senate death means US regulators are now writing crypto rules themselves. Asia's takeaway: no capitulation, just sideways patience.

The marquee event lands squarely in this window — the BOJ Policy Rate, Monetary Policy Statement, and Press Conference (High impact). That's the yen's night. Add RBA Gov Bullock speaking (Medium), UK Retail Sales and GfK Consumer Confidence, plus low-tier NZ trade data, German PPI, and Japan's National Core CPI. A quiet data drip elsewhere; one loud bell in Tokyo.

On the barometer: the stretched shorts still dominate the picture — GBP/USD H4 RSI 24.0 and EUR/USD 28.0, both pressed near the floor with no tested ceiling above. USD/JPY leans bullish (H4 RSI 64.1, EMA20 above EMA50) but sits squeezed between 154.94612 and 156.33978 — the BOJ decides which way it breathes. Gold coils between 4332.88 and 4362.11, oil between 95.70 and 96.79, Bitcoin boxed 75986.7–76602.7. Watch whether the oversold pairs bounce or keep sliding — and whether Tokyo gives the yen a reason to move.
