SESSION PREP · LONDON

What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-09-17 08:00 UTC.

London opens with the Fed's first hike in three years still doing the talking — Bitcoin slipped toward three-week lows as the CLARITY Act died 49–50, and with legislation stalled, the regulators have stepped into the fray. Asia didn't extend the story so much as hold it: price is grinding sideways, not capitulating.

Today's calendar belongs to the pound. The BoE's Monetary Policy Summary, the Official Bank Rate, and the MPC vote split all land in this window — the high-tier trio — alongside final euro-area CPI and a Spanish bond auction. Note the Bank of Korea is already weighing its own hike after the Fed's move; the hike-and-hold-versus-hike-again debate is the global theme.

The barometer reads oversold and stretched: EUR/USD H4 RSI 26.8 and GBP/USD 25.2, both with no tested floor below and resistance way overhead at 1.15345 and 1.34793 — stretched can stay stretched, especially into a central bank. Gold is squeezed between 4314.74 and 4357.41, a breakout waiting on direction; Bitcoin sits between 76276.1 and 76868.3, same story. Watch whether the BoE gives sterling a reason to bounce — or an excuse to keep sliding.
