What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-17 12:00 UTC.

US Session Prep — 12:00–21:00 UTC

The Fed's first hike in three years is still the engine of the tape: equities slipped, Bitcoin slid toward three-week lows, and with the CLARITY Act dead at 49–50, US regulators are doing the legislating themselves. Asia held the line rather than extending it — sideways, not capitulating. So far, today continues that story rather than reversing it.

This window brings the US data slate: Unemployment Claims and the Philly Fed Manufacturing Index headline a medium-tier run, with Building Permits, Housing Starts, Pending Home Sales and Natural Gas Storage rounding out the low-tier side, plus Canadian IPPI/RMPI and Foreign Securities Purchases. No central bank fireworks here — just the slow drip of whether a hike-and-hold economy is still holding.

The barometer leans bearish on sterling and the euro, and stretched is the word: GBP/USD H4 RSI 21.5 and EUR/USD 24.4, both with no tested floor below and resistance far overhead at 1.34790 and 1.15476. Gold sits squeezed between 4309.11 and 4332.88, oil between 95.58 and 96.69 — both coiled for a breakout with no direction yet. Bitcoin is boxed between 75864.0 and 77187.7. Watch whether claims or the Philly print gives the dollar a nudge, and whether the oversold pairs bounce or just keep sliding.
