What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-09-18 08:00 UTC.

London Session Prep — 08:00–12:00 UTC

Tokyo delivered the loud bell: the Bank of Japan raised rates to their highest since 1995, and the yen wobbled while Asian shares mostly rose on a US rally and easing oil. The CLARITY Act's 49–50 death still echoes — the SEC and CFTC are now drafting crypto rules themselves, a speed bump rather than a roadblock, though JPMorgan notes agency rules can be overturned in court. Asia's patience has carried into London.

The European calendar is polite rather than dramatic: Current Account (Low), ECOFIN and Eurogroup Meetings (Low), and ECB President Lagarde speaking (Medium). No marquee data — which means the morning belongs to positioning and whatever the BOJ press conference leaves behind.

On the barometer, the stretched shorts from Asia are still stretched: GBP/USD H4 RSI 29.9 and EUR/USD 33.5, both pressed near the floor with no tested ceiling above — watch whether they bounce or keep sliding. USD/JPY leans bullish (H4 RSI 77.3) but sits 1.0 ATR below 157.77811 resistance, high in its range and overbought. Gold is evenly balanced between 4364.16 and 4400.97; oil is oversold (H1 RSI 29.3) and neutral overall. Bitcoin and Ethereum are both overbought on H1 (75.0 and 71.9) and squeezed into tight boxes — breakouts are on the table, direction unknown.
