What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-24 12:00 UTC.

Good afternoon. The dollar bid is holding its ground — USD/JPY still carries the BULLISH LEANING tag at 157.482, EUR/USD (1.14691) and GBP/USD (1.33731) remain NEUTRAL — while the wires stay busy with the stablecoin theme: the EU banking watchdog pushing for crypto lending rules under MiCA, a reported US initiative to promote dollar-backed stablecoins abroad, and Binance's Greek licence bid heading for rejection. Bitcoin's above $80K on the largest daily ETP inflow since November 2024, though the majors are softer on the session.

Your US window is a steady drip rather than a deluge: US Unemployment Claims at Medium, plus New Home Sales, Current Account and Natural Gas Storage on the low tier. CAD Retail Sales and Core Retail Sales land at Medium, and the Fed's Barkin, Hammack and Paulson all speak — with the MPC's Breeden and Lombardelli on the GBP side.

What to watch: USD/JPY's 157.28018 support is still the line — hold it and the lean has something to stand on, lose it and the H4 down structure gets a vote. That H1 Bollinger squeeze is still the tightest in 120 bars, and squeezes usually resolve rather than fizzle. Gold stays BEARISH CLEAR, with 4333.73 beneath and 4359.91 overhead. And with the tilt gauge having flipped repeatedly on USD/JPY and gold in 24 hours, treat any single label change as noise, not a turn.
