What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-09-30 21:00 UTC.

Good evening. The day that just ended gave us a familiar split-screen: US bond yields posting their biggest jump in a generation as a global rout rattled investors, while equities mostly shrugged — and the dollar kept its bid, with EUR/USD pressed down near 1.1331 and gold slipping back below 4160.

Asia's diary is light on the data front but heavy on central-bank voices and a couple of regional wildcards. We get FOMC members Goolsbee and Kashkari speaking, the BOJ's Summary of Opinions plus the Tankan surveys out of Japan, Australia's Goods Trade Balance and RBA Financial Stability Review, and a Swiss CPI print worth a glance. Note China's Bank Holiday — CNY liquidity will be thin, so treat any offshore yuan moves with a pinch of salt.

Watch whether the dollar's yield-driven bid continues into Asia or finally takes a breather. EUR/USD is stretched below its 1.1331 resistance with the floor far away — a snapback wouldn't shock. GBP/USD sits squeezed between 1.32661 and 1.32802, USD/JPY coiled in its own tight range, and oil pinned near 89.40. Gold carries a bearish lean with a divergence warning, so mind the whipsaw.
