The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-10-01 12:00 UTC.
Good afternoon. The story from London is the same one we tucked in last night: US bond yields posting their biggest jump in a generation, and the dollar still holding the bid that came with it. EUR/USD carried that lower — now near 1.12950, below its 1.13321 resistance, with D1, H4 and H1 all leaning down and H4 RSI at 24.7 (oversold). So yes, the bearish story continued; the question is whether New York extends it or finally lets the stretched rubber band snap.
The session diary is central-bank heavy and data-forward. US Unemployment Claims (medium) and ISM Manufacturing PMI (medium) headline, with Final Manufacturing PMI and Construction Spending alongside. Then the speakers: ECB President Lagarde (medium), FOMC's Waller (medium), plus Barkin, Collins, Schmid, Jefferson, Bowman and Cook, and SNB Chairman Schlegel (medium). Plenty of voices, plenty of potential for a mid-afternoon wobble.
On the gauge: EUR/USD is the stretched one — no tested ceiling above, floor far below, so a snapback wouldn't shock. GBP/USD is pinned just under 1.32264 with support at 1.32065, and it flipped bearish at 11:30 UTC. USD/JPY is squeezed between 158.08783 and 157.82489 — a breakout is on the table, direction unknown. Gold leans bearish below 4190.23, oil is boxed between 91.20 and 90.04, and Bitcoin leans bullish under 84309.3. Mind the whipsaw.
