FX, gold and oil are closed — crypto trades on. Session preps resume Sunday 21:00 UTC. Updated 2026-09-20 12:00 UTC.
Well, that was a week that kept us on our toes. The biggest story wasn't a number — it was a mood. The Guardian asked the question on plenty of lips: are global stock markets heading for a crash? Meanwhile The Motley Fool framed the same Fed moment as "massive news" for investors. Same event, two very different headlines — which is usually a sign that the market itself hasn't decided how to feel.
Over in crypto, the CLARITY Act was rejected, and the honest take is that it stung. Yet by Friday, Yahoo Finance reported Bitcoin opening at $76,350.68, up 0.3% on Thursday's open, with crypto prices rising "as investors move past CLARITY's failure." That resilience is worth noting. Regulation kept moving anyway: the CFTC's crypto asset rules entered White House review, Bastion won conditional OCC approval for a national trust bank charter, Coinbase and Stablecore opened digital-asset rails to 3,000+ banks and credit unions, and XRP jumped 6% as the CFTC submitted its crypto market regulation proposal. Brazil, Vietnam and Austria all made regulatory headlines too. The plumbing is being built even when the big bill stalls.
In commodities, gold spent the week regrouping near a pivotal zone (FOREX.com), with Kitco noting fading September rate-hike bets helped it push higher. Oil got a curious signal: a sudden end to the Iran war would hit oil prices and energy stocks — yet company insiders are buying.
Here's our own read, straight from the desk barometer.
EUR/USD is our clearest bearish lean (29/100) — D1 mixed, but H4 and H1 both down. H4 RSI sits at 40.1. There's no tested ceiling above and the floor is far below, so price looks stretched.
GBP/USD is bearish leaning (31/100): D1 mixed, H4 down, H1 down, with H4 RSI at 43.4. Same stretched picture.
USD/JPY leans bullish (61/100) — D1 down but H4 and H1 both up, H4 RSI 62.0. It's evenly balanced between support at 156.66967 and resistance at 157.77811, so no strong edge either way.
Gold is genuinely neutral (48/100): D1 down, H4 up, H1 mixed. It's squeezed between support at 4366.33 and resistance at 4384.24 — a breakout is on the table, direction unknown. That lines up neatly with FOREX.com's "five weeks at support" and investingLive's note that 4,432 decides whether the bullish move extends.
Oil is neutral too (51/100), sitting high in its range — 0.7 ATR below resistance at 95.81, 5.3 ATR above support at 90.83.
Crypto is the one market that never sleeps, so let's give it its due. Bitcoin's barometer reads neutral (51/100) — D1 down, H4 up, H1 down — trading low in its range, 1.1 ATR above support at 79,944.5 with 3.2 ATR of room up to resistance at 81,302.7. TradingKey noted BTC pushing past $79K as markets anticipated the Fed, while StreetInsider flagged a slip toward $76K into the decision. That's a market coiling, not collapsing.
Ethereum is also neutral (47/100), but the story is livelier. 24/7 Wall St. framed it perfectly: can ETH close the week above $2,672? That level, they say, "opens the door to $3,000." CryptoTicker reported ETH breaking through $2,600 on a short squeeze, and Capital.com highlighted ETF inflows ahead of the Fed. Our read has ETH balanced between support at 2507.5 and resistance at 2613.8 — right in the middle of that conversation.
The Fed is the through-line. CNBC described the dollar and bond markets as "on edge," and FOREX.com's S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 preview noted a hawkish Fed and 10-Year Notes nearing a push above 5% — yet stocks have so far shrugged it off. BlackRock's weekly commentary is the calmer counterweight. On gold, KITCO says Wall Street has gone "full-bull" while Main Street keeps a bullish majority. On oil, LiteFinance is watching key levels and sentiment.
A genuinely busy one. Lagarde speaks twice on Monday (15:00 and 11:00 UTC Tuesday), and BOC's Macklem speaks Monday at 15:05. RBA Governor Bullock takes the mic Tuesday at 03:10 — a high-impact slot. Wednesday brings a wave of flash PMIs from France, Germany and the UK. Thursday is the big one: Australian Employment Change and Unemployment Rate at 01:30 UTC, then the SNB Monetary Policy Assessment and Policy Rate at 07:30.
Watch whether gold resolves that squeeze between 4366 and 4384 — our read says a breakout is coming, just not which way. Watch the dollar's two-sided story: EUR/USD and GBP/USD stretched lower, USD/JPY leaning the other way. Watch ETH's $2,672 weekly close and BTC's hold above 79,944. And keep an eye on the SNB and Aussie jobs data — those are the week's loudest calendar events.
You've done the reading, and that already puts you ahead. Markets reward patience more than prediction, so take the week one session at a time.
