Neocloud stocks like CoreWeave are having a moment — and time’s running out to cash in

Neocloud providers such as CoreWeave have captured investor attention with rapid growth in GPU infrastructure, but a new analysis from BCA’s Noah Weisberger suggests the sector’s long-term profile may be more ordinary than its recent momentum implies. Weisberger argues that neoclouds are ultimately destined to behave like cyclical leasing companies, a framework that typically comes with lower valuation multiples.

The comparison is instructive. Instead of owning proprietary technology or deep software ecosystems, neoclouds primarily rent out computing capacity, often tied to specific hardware contracts. That model makes revenue cyclical, sensitive to supply-demand swings in data-center capacity and to customer churn. If the market eventually prices these firms as leasing plays rather than growth-tech platforms, their earnings power may be judged more conservatively, compressing forward price-to-earnings ratios.

For investors, the key is to differentiate between short-term demand tailwinds and structural positioning. Watch contract duration, utilization rates, and whether neoclouds can secure long-term commitments from clients. The moment may be bright, but sustainability matters more than momentum.
