Two signs investors don’t have to fear an AI slowdown
CoreWeave and Nebius, two "neocloud" providers that rent out specialized AI computing capacity, are both pointing to strong demand and rising prices for AI chips. That combination matters because it offers a demand-side read on the AI buildout that differs from the headline spending figures of the largest cloud providers.
Rising prices are the more telling signal. In a capital-intensive industry, pricing power suggests capacity is being absorbed faster than it can be added, rather than sitting idle. For investors weighing whether the AI trade has run ahead of itself, these disclosures suggest the near-term constraint remains supply, not appetite.
What to watch: whether pricing holds as new data-center capacity comes online, and whether the largest cloud providers confirm the same tightness in their own commentary. If prices stay firm even as supply expands, that would argue against an imminent slowdown. If pricing softens while capacity keeps growing, it would be an early sign that demand is no longer outrunning supply.
