Aave hikes GHO borrow rates to rescue depleted stablecoin pools - CryptoRank

medium impactETHCrypto

Aave has raised the borrow rate for its native stablecoin GHO, according to CryptoRank, in a move aimed at shoring up depleted stablecoin pools. GHO is minted against collateral supplied to Aave, and its borrow rate is set by governance rather than purely by market forces. When the rate sits too low relative to demand, borrowers can mint GHO cheaply and sell it, pushing the token below its $1 target and draining the liquidity available in related pools.

Raising the cost to borrow makes holding a GHO position more expensive, which can encourage borrowers to repay and reduce sell pressure on the stablecoin. That matters beyond Aave itself: GHO is designed to trade at parity with the dollar, and any persistent discount can ripple into the wider stablecoin market, affecting how traders price and use the asset across decentralized venues.

What to watch from here is whether the higher rate actually restores GHO toward its peg and rebuilds pool depth, or whether it mainly curbs borrowing demand without fixing the underlying imbalance. Governance decisions on the rate are likely to remain a key variable for Aave users and for anyone holding or transacting in GHO.
